Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has been contracted to supply 25 SG 4.5-145 wind turbines for the Hoa Thang 1.2 wind farm in Vietnam. The Hoa Thang 1.2 wind farm will have a capacity of 113MW, and is scheduled to be commissioned in 2021. In addition, SGRE has been awarded a 10-year service contract. SGRE said that this was its largest order to date in Vietnam.
The project, located in the Bac Binh district in Binh Thuan province on the south-central coast of Vietnam, is being developed by Hoa Thang Energy Joint Stock Company, a special-purpose vehicle of Vietnam’s construction group Trading Construction Works Organisation (WTO).
The Vietnamese Government estimates that total power generating capacity will read 125-130GW by 2030, up from 46GW in 2018. In order to mitigate climate concerns, the government aims for renewable energy to account for 15-20 per cent of its total energy output by 2030, and has established a target of developing 6GW of wind power capacity by 2030.
