Siemens Energy and 8 Rivers have formed a strategic partnership to develop direct-fired supercritical CO2 turbines for a variety of power sources. This collaboration aims to pave the way for commercial-scale projects in the future.
Siemens Energy has selected a commercially available generator to complement the Allam-Fetvedt Cycle (AFC) turbine. In a recent development, 8 Rivers completed a feasibility study for a biomass-powered AFC system capable of generating negative emissions, for which the company has signed an MOU to advance commercialisation. This offers the potential to produce low-cost electricity while significantly reducing CO2 levels.
Joern Schmuecker, Senior Vice President at Siemens Energy’s Gas Services business area, said: “The carbon negative power solutions that we are developing with 8 Rivers and additional project partners are creating a very promising approach of approaching utility scale clean energy.”
