Siemens announces upgrade of SGT-800 industrial gas turbine

Siemens has announced that its SGT-800 industrial gas turbine has been upgraded to enable it to achieve a power output of 57 MW and an efficiency of over 40 per cent in simple cycle application. In a combined cycle configuration, it achieves 163 MW and a net efficiency of over 58.5 per cent. Siemens said that the SGT-800 is available with power output from 47.5 MW to 57 MW.

The 57 MW upgrade follows the design philosophy of small increments, staying close to the proven design. The improved performance of the 57 MW rating has been achieved through an improved gear box and better outlet casing/diffuser efficiencies. The gas turbine package is also shorter, resulting in a reduced footprint. In addition, a higher degree of preassembly allows for reduced installation time at site.
