Siemens and GE are competing for a contract worth an estimated $15 billion to develop power stations in Iraq.
Joe Kaeser, Chief Executive of Siemens, met with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi in Baghdad to discuss a plan to install 11 GW of power generation capacity over four years.
Adel Jeryan, Deputy Electricity Minister of Iraq, said that the Government hasn’t finalised details of who has won the contract, or the cost of the contract. He said that while Siemens’ chances were “high”, GE was also competing for the project.
GE has presented a proposal to the Iraq Government to add capacity, maintain and improve existing plants, and strengthen networks.
