Turkey is preparing to announce the results of a second wind power plant tender as part of its Renewable Energy Resource Areas (YEKA) scheme on 30 May. The tender will be for four 250 MW plants in different provinces.
Fatih Dönmez, Turkey’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister, said that nine companies have bid for the four tenders. The Minister said: “This is a very pleasing development for the renewable energy sector. The high interest proves the confidence in the Turkish economy and energy market.”
The result of the tenders will be announced on 30 May for four 250 MW wind power plants in Aydin, Muğla, Balikesir, and Canakkale. The tender winner will sign a 15-year purchase agreement with the ministry under a power plant license that will run for 49 years.
Dönmez said that Turkey has recently accelerated investments in renewables and boosted its capacity, making its way to global listings. He said that currently, Turkey had over 7000 MW wind power capacity and over 5000 MW in solar power.
