Wind powered electricity generation in Scotland increased by 19 per cent in 2012, as energy from renewable sources contributed 39 per cent of the country’s total electricity needs.
Electricity from renewables rose by 7 per cent from 2011 to over 14.6 TWh, according to figures from the Scottish government. It said that it wants all of its electricity to come from renewable sources by 2020, and it has set an interim target for 50 per cent to come from renewables by 2015. It contributed about 35 per cent of total UK renewable generation in 2012.
