Saudi Arabia, the world’s biggest exporter of oil, will seek to produce more electricity from fossil fuels, a top government official has announced. Deputy Energy Minister Saleh Alawaji said that the kingdom aims to raise the amount of fossil fuels used for electricity generation to 2.5 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) per day by 2020.
Last year, Saudi Arabia used 1.5 million BOE per day, which included natural gas, crude and oil products, to produce electricity.
