Utility firm RWE AG has announced details of its plan to group its power plants in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK into a single 50 GW pan-European power generation unit.
Chief Executive Peter Terium has said that the new unit aims to create a "single point of accountability for RWE's European power generation," giving the company further opportunities for cost saving through “joint maintenance and operational synergies across all the plants”.
However, Mr Terium did not quantify or disclose details of the expected cost savings the combined unit would bring.
RWE’s power plants, especially the German and Dutch facilities, are ideally located to be bundled into a single power generation unit, Mr Terium said.
"The majority of our German power plants are located close to the Dutch border," he said, adding that the idea of grouping the individual national power generation operations had suggested itself.
