Russia submits first UN Climate Convention project

Russia has submitted its first project under the United Nations Convention for Climate Change (UNCCC) to curb carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) emissions, according to RIA Novosti news agency.
A new energy generator in the Shatura power plant in Moscow region is one of 15 projects certified by Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development for joint implementation under the UNCCC.
Those power plants involved will receive investment in exchange for cuts in greenhouse gas emissions.
If approved by the UN Joint Implementation Supervisory Committee, the Shtura project will cut more than 1 million tons of CO 2 by the end of 2012. Shatura will implement the project in cooperation with the Germany’s E.On.
