Qatar plans major investment in Bangladesh energy sector

Nasrul Hamid, the State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources for Qatar, said that the country is willing to make major investments in Bangladesh’s energy sector. He said that Qatar’s main focus was investment in Bangladesh’s LNG-based power sector.

He said: “They’ve shown keen interest to set up an LNG regasification terminal and an LNG-based power plant in the Payra area of Patuakhali.” He added that they have already participated in a bidding process invited by the Government to set up an LNG-based power plant. “They bid for the project in joint venture with Exxon Mobil. Now their bid is being evaluated along with the proposals of their bidders.”

Bangladesh has been importing LNG from Qatar’s RasGas under a 15-year long-term agreement.
