Overall, the country has invested $50 billion in constructing power plants which are environment-friendly.

Studies are currently on-going to calculate the energy requirements for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup projects, said Abdul Sattar Al Rasheed, Executive Director of Energy Qatar Company.

Qatar has a massive 4000 MW surplus power generation capacity, while the surplus capacity in desalinated water production is also huge at 120 million gallons a day.

Power generation capacity currently stands at 9000 MW and power consumption at peak times is about 5000 MW. The annual increase in the power consumption is currently running at six to seven percent, said Al Rasheed.
