Private sector accounts for 40 per cent of Iran’s electricity production

Mohammad Behzad, the Iranian Deputy Energy Minister, has announced that the country’s private sector accounts for 40 per cent of Iran’s total electricity generation. He said that about $57 billion is being invested in the country’s power generation sector, the bulk of which is being made by the private sector.

Iran exported 11.054 TWh of electricity to its neighbouring countries (Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq) over the last 12 months, a 29 per cent increase on the previous year. Iran imported 3.968 TWh last year, up 8 per cent compared to the preceding year.

Iran power generation capacity currently stands at 68.38 GW.
