The underground Buk Dangjin-Godeok HVDC transmission line to carry electricity generated along the west coast of South Chungcheong Province to the Seoul metropolitan area will open by the end of 2023.
The 3 GW transmission line will extend 34.2 km, and the total project cost has been over $900 million. This will be the largest HVDC project in the country. The line is from Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province to Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province.
When complete, the line will supply stable power to the Pyeongtaek area, which has suffered a shortage of electricity supply as demand has risen as a result of Samsung Electronics having set up a series of semiconductor factories in the region.
