Peru announces $1.2 billion investment in hydroelectric plant

Pedro Sanchez, Peru’s Minister of Energy and Mines, and Erlon Artfelli of the Huallaga Generation Company, signed three procurement contracts for the construction and operation of the Chaglla Hydroelectric Plant, located in the Huánuco region in Peru.

The project, with an investment of £1.2 billion, will be the second largest hydroelectric plant in the country, with a total installed capacity of 406 MW. The project is due to be completed and operating by 2016.

Sanchez said that these contracts: “Placed Peru in a position of leadership in Latin America in developing electrical generation through competitive bidding.”
