Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) has rejected a report from Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) regarding expected losses to the company in the purchase of energy saver bulbs. Muhammad Khalid, PEPCO Director General (Energy Conservation and Management) said that the company is following a transparent method to procure 10 million such bulbs. He said that the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the funding agency, is also monitoring the purchase process.

He also said that LESCO (Lahore) is suspending power supply for six hours in urban and 8-10 hours in rural areas. GEPCO (Gujranwala) and FESCO (Faisalabad) are observing load-shedding for six hours in cities and 9-10 hours in villages; MEPCO (Multan) six hours in urban and 8-9 hours in rural areas; IESCO (Islamabad) five hours in urban and 6-8 hours in rural areas; PESCO (Peshawar) five hours in cities and 6-8 hours in villages; and HESCO (Hyderabad) six hours in urban and 8-10 hours in rural areas.

Khalid said that LESCO has some constraints relating to the National Dispatch and Transmission Company (NTDC). He said that the 220 kV grid station at Kot Lakhpat is overloaded, despite the replacement of two 160 MW transformers with 250 MW units, while another 220 kV grid station in Wapda Town Lahore is yet to start functioning as a result of a stay order from the courts regarding the installation of its main 7 km long transmission line.
