Pakistan continues to be plagued by its worst ever power crisis, as the shortfall has mounted to over 5000 MW, hitting industrial and domestic customers hard.

According to Pepco (Pakistan Electirc Power Company) data, power generation has dipped down to 9600 MW, while demand is peaking at more than 15000 MW, producing a shortfall of nearly 5000 MW in April, a new record.

Claims of shortfall relief coming soon, made by the Pepco management, have fallen flat and their mis-administration stands thoroughly exposed by the shortage of oil, gas and water in the country.

Experts said that with the rise in temperatures, the government would be having a tough time, as the present power outage duration up to 20 hours would be further exacerbated in the urban and rural areas paralysing daily life, and practically shutting down factories triggering mass unemployment.

On the other hand, a Pepco spokesperson said that generation of electricity from hydro sources would increase during May, and soon the improving oil and gas supply would somewhat ease the situation.
