The previous upfront tariff for wind power generation was determined by NEPRA in October 2011, which expired at the end of 2012. After the expiry, NEPRA decided to use the upfront tariff to encourage and facilitate wind power generation in Pakistan. This tariff is on a BOO basis, which will be available for up to a year from the date of its determination by the authority.

This tariff will only be applicable for wind power generation, and will be limited to up to 31 per cent of the net annual plant capacity factor. To be eligible for the tariff, wind power generation companies will need to be: recommended by the Alternative Energy Development Board; have proposed plant and machinery confirmed to be new and of acceptable quality by the Alternative Energy Development Board; and have installed capacity in the range 5-250 MW.
