UK and France are in negotiations to take joint control of the planned Sizewell C nuclear power plant in Suffolk, east England. Agreement is expected within the next two weeks. The 3.2 GW Sizewell C plant is considered vital for UK’s energy supply.
The UK Government and French state controlled EDF will each take a 50 per cent share in the company developing Sizewell C. This will have the effect of excluding the Chinese group CGN from the agreement.
The UK and French governments would cover development costs, but would be free to sell their stakes to new investors.
