Generous green subsidies in Germany have led to a boom in renewable energy, but the rapid expansion of green power has pushed up electricity costs in Europe’s biggest economy and placed special strain on its grids.

Under the newly agreed reforms, Germany will move away from guaranteed feed-in-tariffs to a competitive auction system.
