Iran’s only nuclear power plant, Bushehr, has been repaired, reconnected to the grid, and is again operating. Mostafa Rajabi-Mashadi, spokesman for the Iranian electricity network, said: “The Bushehr power plant has come back online after repairs. It is injecting 1000 MW into the country’s distribution network.”
Iran has been grappling with power cuts due in part to high summer consumption. Officials also blame high consumption by cryptocurrency miners and the loss of over 10 per cent of production due to inadequately funded infrastructure.
Ali Akbar Salehi, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), said that the plant will need refuelling in the next 2-3 months. Nuclear fuel is supplied by Russia under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
