Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has ordered construction of the largest renewable energy power plant in the West Asia region.
An agreement was signed on 25 December for construction of a 4000 MW solar power plant, which will be the largest in the West Asia region. The power plant is scheduled to be operational before summer 2024.
President Raisi also launched the 10 MW Saghand power plant in the central province of Yazd.
Iran’s Energy Ministry plans to achieve a 10 900 MW increase in energy production capacity from renewable sources. After implementation of the plan, power generation capacity from renewable sources, which was 870 MW when Raisi’s administration took office and is currently about 1119 MW, will increase to over 5119 MW.
