Reza Ardakanian, Energy Minister of Iran, has said that the country has restarted negotiations with Russia to build a new 3000 MW nuclear power plant. He said: “Talks are underway to construct a new 3000 MW nuclear power plant to increase nuclear electricity generation capacity to 4000 MW.”
Rosatom said in May of this year that work has begun on soil stabilisation on the site of Phase 2 of the Bushehr power plant.
The resumption of talks between Iran and Russia came as a result of the USA withdrawal from the Iran nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Under the deal, Iran undertook to put limits on its nuclear programme in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions.
