International Power of the UK and GDF-Suez of France are believed to have restarted talks of creating a partnership. The move could involve a cash payout to shareholders in International Power.
The two companies have previously been in detailed negotiations. However, these collapsed in January when the parties failed to agree terms. These previous discussions broke down because GDF-Suez did not offer the cash demanded by International Power’s biggest investors.
It is thought that the two sides are currently exploring the possibility that International Power could pay a special dividend to its investors as part of a deal to merge with the international assets of GDF-Suez. Any new cash element is likely to remain a minority part of a final offer.
