IKEA has recently stated that it wants to generate all the electricity it uses in its shops and factories from clean sources by 2020. In order to achieve this goal, the recent announcement has seen IKEA pledge €600 million ($674 million) on wind and solar projects, adding to the €1.5 billion ($1.69 billion) it has invested since 2009.

At the moment, IKEA is set to own and operate 314 wind turbines and currently has 700 000 solar panels on its roofs.

Peter Agnefjall, IKEA chief executive, said that the new measures would not push up prices at the company stores, as the investments will be “good for customers, good for the climate and good for IKEA too”.

IKEA's announcement adds to increasing evidence of companies seeking to address consumer concerns over the climate and environment.
