The project is to build a CCGT power plant with a capacity of around 1300MW in the Umesh region of Biskra, 340km southeast of the capital Algiers. The plant is scheduled to be completed within 60 months, and will have an average annual power generation of 10TWh.

The Algerian Government has said that it plans to build a total of 20,000MW of additional power generation facilities over the next 10 years to meet the rapidly rising increase in power demand. Under this policy, HYENCO plans to build a total of five similar plants.
