is likely to suffer acute power deficits after complete loss of power generation at Hwange Thermal Power Station. In a statement, Fullard Gwasira, spokesperson for Zesa Holdings, said that the station has experienced 25 emergency shutdowns over the last 45 days, and these have resulted in equipment damage leading to complete loss of generation at the country’s second largest power plant. Over this period, Hwange, with a design capacity of 750MW, has only been able to produce 200MW or more for two out of six working days.

Gwasira said that Hwange had been affected by a series of faults on the regional power grid. “These forced outages caused complete loss of generation at Hwange, resulting in major equipment damage.” He said that they were making efforts tom restore the units to enable output to reach 350MW within a week.
