Hurricane Ida has resulted in all eight transmission lines into the New Orleans area to go down, creating a load imbalance that knocked all power generation in the region offline. This has resulted in all of Orleans Parish customers being without power, according to Entergy New Orleans .
Brandon Scardigli, spokesman for Entergy New Orleans, said that the company is working to: “Assess a path forward to restore power to those who can take it.” Entergy New Orleans has announced that it is providing back-up generation to the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board.
According to the US Department of Homeland Security, the only power currently in the city is coming from generators.
