The £18 billion Hinkley Point C nuclear power project in the UK appeared to be in difficulties after reports that Thomas Piquemal, Finance Director of EDF, had resigned.

Sources said that Piquemal had concluded that the project to build two EPRs at Hinkley Point would put too much stress on EDF’s already stretched balance sheet, jeopardising EDF’s financial position.

EDF has yet to confirm the reported resignation of Piquemal.
