According to Mr Krishna Ram Bhupal, GVK Power Managing Director, the company will expand two existing gas-based units by 800 MW each and two new greenfield projects by 2640 MW, all in Andhra Pradesh.

“The new projects will be gas-based and coal-based in Andhra Pradesh. For coal-based plants, we are going for two plants of 4 x 660 MW and looking to make them operational by 2017,” Mr Bhupal told media at the Partnership Summit-2012.

“We are looking for coal supply for the projects and we are also in the process of identifying land,” Mr Bhupal added, responding to speculation that the company may import coal from Hancock Coal mines in Australia which the Group acquired last year.
