The Green Investment Group (GIG) and Hydro Rein have agreed to form a joint venture to build and operate a 586 MW wind and solar power project in Brazil. The wind and solar hybrid project will be called Feijão and will be located in the states of Piaui and Pernambuco.
The first phase of the project will be development of a 456 MW wind farm, consisting of 80 turbines to be delivered by Nordex. Phase two will involve developing a 130 MW solar power facility. The hybrid project will cost an estimated $700 million.
GIG will hold a 50.1 per cent stake in the project; Hydro Rein will hold 49.9 per cent. Once complete, the plant will supply electricity to Hydro Rein’s bauxite mine Paragominas and it alumina refinery Alunorte under a PPA.
