The German Council of Ministers has issued an order to allow the reactivation of power plants belonging to RWE and Leag . The plants will be in the supply reserve network to participate in the electricity market from October 2023 until the end of March 2024.

Last year, the energy crisis forced Germany to rely more heavily on coal to generate electricity after Russia stopped gas supplies following its war in Ukraine. While Germany has improved its gas supply situation, it also closed the last of its nuclear reactors in Spring, which is expected to limit its energy supplies this winter.
