Daniel Muhlenfeld, spokesman for Steag, said: “We are short of hard coal. There is a strong demand for coal and secondly, there is a strong demand for transport by barge. Since Bergkamen has np rail connection, there are no logistical alternatives available here.”

Steag said that the plant will come back online “quite soon.”
