Houshang Falahatian, Deputy Energy Minister for Iran, said that his country would shortly sign deals with German companies for the construction of new power plants. He said that Iran is seeking to add up to 37,000 MW of new power to its national grid. This follows the visit to Iran last month of Sigmar Gabriel, the German Economy Minister, who led a 60-member delegation, including representatives from Siemens, Linde, VW, and Daimler.
Falahatian said that the successful conclusion of nuclear talks with the West resulted in new openings for resuming cooperation in the power industry with Germany, and expanding it. He said: “Transfer of know-how and technology for water and electricity economisation, upgrading efficiency of power plants and building new power plants, including renewable and new energy facilities, constitutes the main topics of our talks.”
Falahatian said that up to 37,000 MW of new power generation capacity will be created within a 6-year period based on a major programme. The plan includes generating about 5000 MW from renewable energy sources. He said: “Negotiations for transfer of technology for building renewable energy generation units, especially solar and wind plants, are advancing at a satisfactory pace, and we expect agreements to be signed soon.”
