Overall power generation in developed nations rose 3.7 per cent last year, according to an International Energy Agency (IEA) report. This largely made up for the 3.8 per cent decrease in 2009, as power demand recovered from the global recession.
Within the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), supply in South Korea and Turkey rose the most last year. They gained 8.7 per cent and 8 per cent respectively, according to the IEA Medium-Term Oil and Gas Markets 2011 report.
Power generation remains “below pre-crisis level” in countries including Italy, Spain and Greece due to slower rates of economic recovery, the OECD said.
