After Denmark’s Vestas and China’s Goldwind, GE is currently the world’s third largest wind turbine manufacturer by market share, and it is expected to complete a high-profile offshore wind link called DolWin3.
This project is expected to be completed in 2017 and involves converter stations and connecting cable systems for a platform operated by grid company TenneT, which clusters 900 MW wind farms and links them to the mainland.
As soon as the problem of long distances between turbines and mainland has been solved, Germany’s ambitious programme of building 6.5 GW of offshore capacity by 2020 can begin.
GE is also in line to exploit suitable geographies for tapping wind speeds in eastern Europe and could use equipment from its Germany-based manufacturing sites.
