GE’s HA gas turbine technology ordered by Guangdong Energy Group

GE has announced that Chinese utility Guangdong Energy Group has ordered three 9HA.02 gas turbines for Dongguan Ningzhou combined cycle power plant in Guangdong province in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The plant will add 2.4 GW to Guangdong province in accordance with national goals to transition from coal to natural gas.

GE’s local partner on the project is Harbin Electric . Harbin Electric will provide the steam turbine, generator, and balance-of-plant equipment for Ningzhou power plant. The plant is expected to be operational in 2022.

China is committed to transitioning from coal to gas, planning to reduce coal’s share to under 58 per cent of the energy mix.

Yang Dan, President of GE Gas Power China, said: “Dongguan Ningzhou power plant is expected to become one of the largest gas plants in mainland China and plays a significant role in promoting the world’s lower-carbon and sustainable development. GE’s H-Class combined cycle power plant has >64 per cent net combined cycle efficiency.”
