GE Gas Power and Harbin Electric have announced that Chinese utility Shenzhen Energy Group has order power generation equipment for its 2 GW Guangming combined cycle power plant, located in Shenzhen Guangming district of Guangdong province, China.
The plant will be powered by three GE 9HA.01 gas turbines. It is planned that the first unit of the plant will be operational by the end of 2023, in time to support the retirement in 2025 of the Guangdong Shajiao coal-fired power complex.
Harbin Electric will provide steam turbines and generators. The joint venture, General Harbin Electric Gas Turbine (Qinhuangdo) Co., was formed in 2019 as a joint effort to focus on heavy duty gas turbine localisation, aiming to deliver efficient and reliable support for China natural gas power plants.
A representative of Shenzhen Energy Group said: “We’re committed to supplying the most advanced power generation in alignment with China’s national emissions reduction goals and commitment to building a lower carbon, safer, and more efficient energy system. GE and Harbin Electric will provide us with the highest standard of quality and reliability for our Guangming power plant. We ordered GE’s H-Class technology for its ability to generate significant electrical output in a flexible and efficient – way, crucial for the population of Guangdong province – while helping to ensure reliability of supply.”
