Gazprom International has signed an MOU on Russian-Dominican cooperation in energy with Transgas Caribe and the Dominican Corporation of State Electricity Companies (CDEEE). The agreement was signed by Valery Gulev, Managing Director of Gazprom International, Ricardo Canalda, President of Transgas Caribe, and Ruben Bichara, Vice President of CDEEE.

The first phase of the MOU is for the development of projects to build and operate a number of power plants supported by guaranteed purchases of the electricity generated by CDEEE.
The Dominican Republic is experiencing an electricity capacity deficit of over 2000MW. The vast majority, 86 per cent, of power generation capacity in the country is privately owned, while the remaining 14 per cent is publicly owned.
