Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), the operator of Japan’s wrecked Fukushima nuclear power plant said that there was no damage or spike in radiation levels at the station after an earthquake struck in the ocean east of Japan, causing a small tsunami.
The earthquake, classified as magnitude 7.1 by the Japan Meteorological Agency, took place 230 miles off the coast of Japan, resulting in a 30cm tsunami.
A spokesman for TEPCO said that some workers had been ordered to evacuate to higher ground after the earthquake, but that there was no damage or change in readings at radiation monitoring posts around the plant.
