The French Government will provide a €120 million loan for the development of the 128 MW Keyal Khwar Hydropower Project, located near Pattan, in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Economic Affairs Division said: “The French assistance will support the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) in its drive to develop the hydroelectric power sector in Pakistan.” It also said that the funding will help enhance the competitiveness of renewable power generation, thus promoting affordability and scaling up energy supply.
The project will contribute to Pakistan’s strategy to generate green energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and opt for climate-friendly projects, according to commitments announced at the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan in Geneva, Switzerland, on 9 January.
