Four firms from Japan and South Korea – Sumitomo , Shikoku Electric Power , Korea Southern Power , and Korea Overseas Infrastructure and Urban Development Corp . – have jointly won a contract to build and operate a natural gas-fired power plant and a seawater desalination facility near Doha in Qatar.

The project involves construction and operation of a 2.4 GW natural gas-fired power plant and a 495 000 tons/day seawater desalination facility on the site of an old power plant located approximately 25 km south of Doha. Kahramaa Sumitomo, representing the four companies, signed a long-term power and water sale agreement with Kahramaa .
