Eskom has announced that it has gone more than 29 days without load-shedding, which it attributes to sustained electricity generation capacity and sufficient emergency reserves. Eskom said that load-shedding remains suspended until further notice.
Eskom said that its expensive diesel-powered Open Cycle Gas Turbines had only been used during peak demand periods, as designed.
Chris Yelland, MD and Energy Analyst for EE Business Intelligence , said that there had been fewer unplanned breakdowns at Eskom units compared to the same period last year, accounting for the improvement. He added that there had been an increase in planned maintenance outages.
