Equinor and Petrobras are cooperating to develop the 4GW Aracatu offshore wind farm, a project located in the Campos Basin, 20 km off of the southeast coast of Brazil. Equinor and Petrobras are currently assessing the environmental feasibility of the project.
In 2018, Equinor and Petrobras signed an MOU to develop the offshore wind energy segment in Brazil. Equinor filed an application to commence the environmental permitting process for the Aracatu project in 2020.
Equinor asked for environmental applications for six projects in four Brazilian states, with 14 370 MW currently under examination. Aracatu is the largest, with the remaining projects ranging between 2 GW and 2.5 GW.
