The initial areas of focus will include developing standardised base designs for HVDC and alternating current transmission systems to connect offshore wind farms and Equinor-operated production facilities to mainland power grids.

The scope of the agreement covers Hitachi’s full portfolio of power grid technologies and solutions.

Hitachi Energy has provided Equinor with power grid solutions and technologies for various projects in the North Sea, such as Dogger Bank A, B, and C in the UK sector and Troll A offshore Norway, which is said to be the world’s first HVDC power-from-shore connection.
