Peru’s electric power production may expand by 8-9 per cent by the end of 2016, according to Carlos Mario Caro, President of Peru’s National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy (SNMPE) Electric Sectorial Committee.
He highlighted remarks by Peru’s Deputy Minister of Energy Paul Perez-Reyes, who announced that there will be no bids for new electric power generation in the near future, as supply is guaranteed until 2025. He said: “Building power plants is not advisable right now, and analyses in this respect will not take place until 2019 or 2020.”
Caro said, however, that electric power investments will not fall, because new investments will be made in transmission and distribution.
