Egypt has inaugurated several power generation projects, including three combined cycle power plants built by Siemens. The three combined cycle plants are in Kafr Al Shaikh and Beni Suef provinces and just outside Cairo. Together, they will provide 14,400 MW at a cost of €6 billion. The projects also include a wind farm at Gabal Al Zeit on the Red Sea.
Ayman Hamza, Spokesman for the Egyptian Electricity Ministry, told local media that the plants are part of a wider plan to make Egypt a regional energy hub.
