The Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCO), Thailand’s first power generation IPP, has started commercial operation of the Nam Theun 1 hydropower plant in Laos. The electricity generated is being sold to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).
Thepparar Theppitak, President of EGCO Group, said: “Nam Theun 1 hydropower plant, 25 per cent owned by EGC), started commercial operation and supplying power to EGAT on 12 August.”
Nam Theun 1 is located at Nam Kading River, Bolikhamxay province, Laos. It consists of 3 turbines, with a total installed capacity of 650 MW. It has a 27-year PPA with EGAT for 514.3 MW and a 27-year PPA with Electricite Du Laos (EDL) for 130.8 MW.
