The Energy Development Corporation (EDC) of the Philippines has announced that it is planning to build an additional geothermal power project at Bac-Man, in addition to the ongoing construction of two geothermal plants.
Construction for the 28.9 MW Palayan ORC binary plant within the Bac-Man geothermal facility started construction in June 2021 and is expected to be operational by the second half of 2022. The 3.6 MW Mindanao 3 unit will go online in 2022.
The additional geothermal plant under consideration will commence construction in 2022, according to Richard Tantoco, President and COO of EDC. He said that the projects use new technology, radial outflow turbines, producing geothermal power more efficiently. He said: “They are much more compact, much more efficient, and they need a lot less cement when they are being constructed.”
