The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved a loan of $240 million to JSC Uzbekenergo for the addition of extra generation capacity at the Talimarjan power plant in south Uzbekistan. The loan will enable installation of a 900 MW combined cycle gas turbine along with related infrastructure. The project will be co-financed with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Uzbek Fund for Reconstruction and Development (UFRD).

The investment will support the provision of uninterrupted and sustainable power to the region, supporting economic growth. The project will help improve the efficiency and reliability of power supply in Uzbekistan. Currently, the country suffers energy losses of around 20 per cent due to unreliable supply and obsolete facilities.
