Duke Energy Florida announces 3 new solar power plants

Duke Energy Florida (DEF) has filed the locations of its three latest planned solar power plants, achieving a commitment of 700MW of solar power in Florida, USA.

The 74.5 MW Duette Solar Power Plant will be built on approximately 520 acres in Manatee County, Florida. The 74.9MW Charlie Creek Solar Power Plant will be built on 610 acres in Hardee County, Florida. The 74.9MW Archer Solar Power Plant will be built on 630 acres in Alachua County, Florida.

All three solar power plants are expected to be finished in 2021. The three plants will complete Duke Energy Florida’s commitment to customers to provide 700MW of clean energy by 2022.

Excluding these three sites announced on 1 June, 2020, Duke Energy Florida currently has more than 500MW of solar generation under construction or in operation. The company is investing $1 billion to construct or acquire a total of 700MW of solar power facilities from 2018 through 2022 in Florida, and it is planning to reach a total of 1700MW of solar generation over the next 10 years.
